'Padmaja' the label by Padmaja Krishnan caters to the avant garde customer. The label consists of clothing that is constructed of natural fibres such as cotton, silk, jute and linen. The collections have been described as 'non-conformative', 'quirky' and 'original', as they are constructed using scraps of waste that is generated at the studio as well as surplus fabric that was once intended to be used. The brand reflects a strong identity in design that reflects a Japanese sensibility as well as a sense of the contemporary that is associated not just to the form, but also to the process of creation. As the brand caters to a foreign audience, for the most part, the clothes are a mix of the everyday as well as the extreme. The collections are pleasing to the eye and can be called minimalistic in cut and production. Techniques such as pleating, layering as well as patchwork bring together a variety of colours that gives the brand its stand-alone identity.
